Overview

As put forward in 'Ranks & Address', naval ranks constitute the "centrepiece" ranking system of The Galactic Empire, partially due to their widespread use... It is important to know that an officer's rank does not "bind" them to a specific section of the Empire, and this is nowhere more evident than in the multiple naval officers that serve in sections outside the standard Imperial Navy.

The descriptions of all naval ranks contained herein list their most common Imperial Navy usage, but many ranging from Lieutenantthrough Admiral (for example) are also employed as support or staff members in Imperial Institutions.
