Junior Lieutenant (JLT) is the introductory rank for Commissioned Officers in the Imperial Army. Non-commissioned officers often achieve this rank and their commission after notable service to their units on several levels. A Junior Lieutenant is also recognized as a leader and serves as the company commanding officer's assistant and executor.

A Junior Lieutenant has not yet achieved true command, but may be next in line for command of his or her unit.
