GE Meeting # 19

Post by Jagged Fel »

* FAPolanski changes topic to 'GE Meeting #19 in progress! Announcements phase || http://www.empirereborn.net'
* FAPolanski sets mode: +m
<FAPolanski> Please take your seats all, for we are about to begin.
<FAPolanski> Welcome to the 19th Galactic Empire: An Empire Reborn meeting! As always please do not message the operators during the announcements phase.
<FAPolanski> http://www.empirereborn.net/docs.php?page=irc
<FAPolanski> A warm welcome however to all those who are attending this evening - it has been a long time since we have had a formal meeting here in #galactic_empire.
<FAPolanski> With this said, I have the honor of starting the announcements.
<FAPolanski> ---
<FAPolanski> ## News from the Office of the Supreme Commander ##
<FAPolanski> ---
<FAPolanski> 1. Fleet Numbers...!
<FAPolanski> The Empire currently has 184 active Imperials on the roster, with 794 in total. These numbers are up 15 and 46 from our last meeting. This is good to see it rising, but we need to strive to keep members actice so that there are at least the more in the actives increase and less in the inactives increase.
<FAPolanski> Please do your best with recruiting! Remember that recruiters are awarded with the Medal of Expansion.
<FAPolanski> Anyone also wishing to help with the academy should contact Rear Admiral Zwibble (commandant@empirereborn.net) or Commander Laithlis (prefect@empirereborn.net).
<FAPolanski> ---
<FAPolanski> 2. Summer Ladder results
<FAPolanski> The summer ladder results were out last week and the medals awarded. I am extremely happy to see such activity across some of the ladders, although the Navy ones could do with some more playing. At lot of actvity was seen in Jedi Outcast - nearly 500 or so games.
<FAPolanski> Activity was also seen in Empire at War and Jedi Academy. Full results can be found on the messageboards (together with medal awards) at viewtopic.php?t=1879.
<FAPolanski> The Autumn [Fall] ladders have begun and will finish at the end of this year at 0000GMT on 31st December. Results will be processed in the days following this :) I hope everyone will get on the ladders and attempt to take away Major Burton's grip on Jedi Outcast!
<FAPolanski> ---
<FAPolanski> 3. AntiSpam measures
<FAPolanski> Due to a huge amount of spam on my Supreme Commanders email address, full anti-spam settings have been enabled at the mailbox server location. This means if you do not get a reply from myself then please send your message again (it may have been accidentally flagged).
<FAPolanski> If you still do not get a message from me after that, please attempt to contact me either via the messageboards or on any of the instant message programs that are available on my profile, or at any address you know I am contactable at (however please do not use any personal address you may know).
* Fel is now known as AD_Fel
<FAPolanski> On this note remember that everyone is able to contact me at any time via email or any instant messager. I will also endeavour to spend some time with all officers.
<FAPolanski> ---
<FAPolanski> 4. TIE Project
<FAPolanski> I am still looking for anyone with 2D or 3D graphics skills, C# skills and an eagerness to learn lots of new skills - if this sounds like you please contact me as soon as possible for more details.
<FAPolanski> ---
<FAPolanski> # End of section #
<FAPolanski> In order to give Admiral Fel a few minutes to prepare his announcements, I ask General Jansen for news from the Imperial Army.
<GEN_Jansen> Yes sir
<FAPolanski> All those with other news should message me now
<FAPolanski> Please take the stand :)
<GEN_Jansen> Thank you
<GEN_Jansen> --
<GEN_Jansen> The standard format for Army companies structure has been changed. Companies can now hold 10 troopers vs 8. This was changed to help keep the Army from having companies with 3 members because of their game platform.
<GEN_Jansen> --
<GEN_Jansen> There has been an army shuffle over the past week. A lot of reserve transfers and some inter company transfers as well. This was due to the 2 new open slots in all companies and some long standing AWOL requests.
<GEN_Jansen> --
<GEN_Jansen> Army participation in the Ladders is exciting to say the least. I am happy to see a lot of you taking part. Keep it up!
<GEN_Jansen> --
<GEN_Jansen> I am still looking to get a new Army banner or 2. Anyone who would like to make one, send it into BRG Branet and myself. Winners will be rewarded!
<GEN_Jansen> --
<GEN_Jansen> That is all from my office. My thanks Admiral!
<FAPolanski> Thank you General!
<FAPolanski> Admiral Fel, news from the Imperial Navy ?
<GEN_Jansen> Prob did not give AD Fel enough time..:-(

<BRG_Branet> Since it is possible to see, in this opportunity a big quantity of medals has been delivered (what it does to all very happy). These medals correspond principally to the results of the competition Summer Ladder and Band of Brothers, with special mention to First Imperial Swift Kick Tournament realized by Demon Company.
<BRG_Branet> Congratulations to all!
<BRG_Branet> --------------------------------------------------
<BRG_Branet> 4.- Army Update!
<BRG_Branet> As it has informed in previous bulletins, It has been decided to add an additional 2 slots to company's. This will increase the trooper count to 10. With this one hopes to do a better distribution of the new members of the Imperial Army in the respective companies, avoiding like that to create companies with few members and in which his CO might be absent.
<BRG_Branet> --------------------------------------------------
<BRG_Branet> 5.- Inside the Imperial Army the following positions are opened for applications:
<BRG_Branet> - XO of Hornet Company. Send his applications to ALT Thot Ghor.

<BRG_Branet> Due to the structural changes inside the Imperial Army, these positions will change soon. Nevertheless, we invite to the interested ones to apply all anyhow to these positions. The Imperial Army is very interested in promoting the improvement of all those members of the GEER.
<BRG_Branet> ------------------------------------------------
<BRG_Branet> 6.- Active competences:
<BRG_Branet> - The ladders for Fall 2006 are now open! Hot on the heels of an exciting Summer session, the fall session features two new ladders for you to play! You can view them and sign up at http://www.empirereborn.net/ladders.php .More information here viewtopic.php?t=1879
<BRG_Branet> ------------------------------------------------
<BRG_Branet> 7.- This is all for now. In relation to the competition Band of Brothers, although the edition The Return of the Clones has finished, the central history continues in march. For this motive, in any moment there will begin a brief competition that will have relation with this History, and that will influence in the development of the next edition of Band of Brothers.
<BRG_Branet> Be prepared!.
<BRG_Branet> -=End=-
<BRG_Branet> This is all for the time being. Thank you very much!
<FAPolanski> Thank you very much.
<FAPolanski> Admiral Fel I believe is now ready...
<AD_Fel> I am, thank you. :-)
<AD_Fel> News from the Desk of Admiral Fel
<AD_Fel> 1) Navy Status! The Imperial Navy now has 70 commissioned officers - and this is a great improvement over the beginning of the year. Well done to all recruiters!
<AD_Fel> 2) Captain Syrtaras's status - for those of you wondering about Captain Syrtaras, he has been in contact with me to inform me of serious problems in the installation of his internet connection. We will keep you informed of his status...
<AD_Fel> 3) Empire at War Mission Creation Competition! As announced earlier on, I am willing to award a Bronze Seal to the first officer who can successfully create an Empire at War map! For full details, check the message boards or your inboxes. :-)
<AD_Fel> 4) MB Maintenance Completed - After an unfortunate period of downtime last weekend, the MBs have been moved over to a new database, hopefully speeding up the main site. Please report any issues to myself, General Jansen, or FA Polanski.
<AD_Fel> And that's all for today. :-)
<FAPolanski> Thank you for the update Admiral.
<FAPolanski> Vice Admiral Jagged Fel has some news for us all as well - Admiral ?
<VA_JagFel> Thank you, sir
<VA_JagFel> -= Tactical Office News =-
<VA_JagFel> 1. There are currently 30 missions in the queue, with 3 assigned for testing.
<VA_JagFel> -
<VA_JagFel> 2. ERS 175 and 177 for TIE, 176 for GB, and 178 for XvT hav been released! Some officer-submitted, and one alternate OS mission
<VA_JagFel> -
<VA_JagFel> 3. We need *active* test pilots If you have the time to fly a mission and determine bugs or issues, please either talk to myself or sign up on the IS.net MBs (http://www.imperialsquadrons.net/phpbb/index.php). Mission editing skills are not required, but is preferred. I could test and fix all of the missions myself, but I need at least a second pair of eyes to look it over, because while I don't like to admit it, I am slightly less than perfect ;)
<VA_JagFel> -
<VA_JagFel> 4. Keep making missions! And please, if you are making a mission, beta test it yourself first to make sure it works! There's nothing worse than testing a mission that is beyond "buggy," and I tend to just throw those out.
<VA_JagFel> -
<VA_JagFel> One note from the land of IDMR:
<VA_JagFel> 1. The majority of the work done since the last IDMR update has been behind the scenes, and will be made public when the time is right.
<VA_JagFel> I'm still working in the lab, but I have many projects on the table ;)
<VA_JagFel> -= fin =-
* Quits: BRG_Branet (Ping timeout)
<FAPolanski> Thanks for the updates.
<FAPolanski> We are almost at the end of the Announcements section, after a few words from Major Burton.
<FAPolanski> Please... :)
<MAJ_Burton> Indeed, Admiral. This is just a notice about the InterClub Training Event.
<MAJ_Burton> ICTE participation in September wasn't as high as we would like. At this very moment, the ICTE is currently running in #outerrim and I have already played a few matches.
<MAJ_Burton> Join the channel and you can play multiplayer with every platform supported by the GE, against the Dark Jedi of the Brotherhood and other online clubs. This includes EaW, JA, JO, BF, BF2, GB and more! The whole event lasts 12 or 24 hours, depending on how it's going.
<MAJ_Burton> See the ICTE site for more information: http://icte.starwarsalliance.com/
<MAJ_Burton> Don't forget to claim your Imperial Star(or pin) when the results have been uploaded to the 'Archive' section of the ICTE site!
<MAJ_Burton> Back to you, Admiral.
<FAPolanski> Many thanks to you as well.
<FAPolanski> I hope to see more names in the ICTE soon - including myself!
<FAPolanski> That is the end of the announcements phase, and we have in tradition a set of trivia questions; hosted by Major Burton.
<FAPolanski> After explaining the rules the moderation will be removed :)
* Joins: BRG_Branet

<FAPolanski> In the event of a draw, a TIE Breaker will be used to decide the winner.
<FAPolanski> Good luck to all those who take part!

Looks like 10, although the channel counter would've read... 13. Didn't look during the meeting.

With DirectX you have two choices: C# (easy), or C++ (nightmareish). For those who are new to it, go figure!

No, you have always have those two choices: Make it good, or do it the easy way. :P

There is no good easy way in programming. As much as it sucks, that's the way it is. :P
Plus, you do not create a TIE/XWA follow-up with newbie programmers. Either do it right or don't do it. Look what happened to the EH thing.

They both do the same thing really, but the C++ by definition makes it much harder. You'd be surprised how easy it is to get started, although I know it will get harder as time goes on... But keep watching.

Whether or not anything goes anywhere real, it is the fact that anyone taking part will go away from it with more than they started - so thats a plus in itself.

It's customary to prune the trivia part out of logs. I don't know and either way, I don't mind. :P
