Round 3 Run-on Story Chapter

Post by LC La Forge »

The following is what you will continue off from if you write for the runon. This is chapter two below.

Hit and Run - Chapter 2

The majestic Chimaera once again graced the space above Efferia, here again for diplomacy, but also to ensure their share in the treasure of the planet's core.
A trio of shuttles left the hangar and headed down to the surface. They flew in formation until they broke through the clouds, where they split off and went their own way. Each was carrying multiple inspection teams for the drilling equipment, now in place and ready to begin. There were 4 major drilling sites, and the command center was in the center of the group. Each site was approximately 20 klicks from the CC and was the size of a small town.
The lead shuttle was carrying CL Calder and CM La Forge and they made their way down to the CC. The other shuttles were carrying Trooper teams, who were to be stationed at each site while drilling commenced. Due to the nature of the civil unrest, FA Polanski assigned the entire Chimaera Regiment, including the Regiment commander, Major Jagged Fel, to guard the drilling facilities to any sort of attacks.
Lambda 1 set down, and Vice Praetor Daramus was waiting with his assistant, Mr. Engh.
"Welcome to Efferia, sirs. You must be Line Captain Calder, and this is...?"
"Commander La Forge, he is my First Officer aboard the Chimaera."
"Welcome again, and I hope that your trip will be most uneventful. If you would follow me, I will show you to our command facility, where all four drilling sites may be monitored."
They entered a large construction facility, obviously with help from Imperial designs. It was made from the same shades of grey visible in most Imperial facilities, and more often, from the interior of a Star Destroyer. After walking through several similar corridors, they came upon the nexus of the facility, a large control room, filled with monitors and consoles of every kind.
"Here we can access any camera at each site, as well as directly take over the drills and pumping equipment remotely, if need be. We can also operate limited defense capabilities, in the unfortunate case of an attack from one of the militant groups." Daramus seemed proud in his work, with a smirk on his face as if he'd accomplished a lot more than set up a few mining camps.
Calder was impressed at the sophistication of the setup, seeing that the planet is war-torn, and he was surprised at the integration of the Imperial equipment with the Efferian's. "I see you have been working hard, and the Empire is grateful for what you are doing."
"And I too, am grateful that the Empire is helping achieve this common interest. Hopefully, with your help, Efferia can make a difference, and help put the Alliance back where they belong."

MAJ Fel was at the drilling site northwest of the Command Center. It was the site that was scheduled to be the first to drill. CPT Chu and TL Veila also led teams at two other sites, and MSG Mitchell had his own team as well. Each inspection team was careful to note any problems with the machinery, either in its setup, or physical damage caused by the year it took to set up. Every site looked flawless, which struck MAJ Fel as odd. He realized the importance of this operation, but surely to have spent a year on this project, there must have been something that was overlooked.
"Are you satisfied with what you see here?" Fel turned around to see a shorter grey-haired man in a lab coat. "I am Chief Science Officer Marous, at your service."
"If you're the Chief Science Officer, shouldn't you be at the Command Center over viewing every site?"
Marous chuckled, "Heavens no, that's what my supervisors are for." Fel could barely make out a hint of nervousness, but didn't bring it up. Instead, he inquired about the pristine nature of the equipment.
"How were you able to keep everything intact for the year's worth of set-up?" Marous uneasily replied, "We didn't set it up right away, for fear that a militant group would discover it before it was completed. We had storage facilities built nearby, and it was kept there until right before the last shipment arrived, when we pulled it out and assembled it." Fel asked if the machinery had been tested yet, to which Marous quickly replied "Oh, yes, yes, everything works fine."
"Very well then, I will go make my report on the status now. Good day, sir".
Fel turned and left, but didn't notice the smirk that came across the Science Officer's face before he promptly turned and hurried off.
