Star Wars: The Old Republic

Post by Markus Redd »

Everyone should know about KOTOR, and Star Wars: The Old Republic is a MMORPG based on the x-box series. I have a couple questions for you.

1. What do you guys think about the game?
2. Do you think it will help the GE at all?

Now, Discuss!

Oddly enough I never quite got around to playing Knights of the Old Republic. Though I have heard some very good things about it.

1. I am very encouraged by the sheer amount of effort the developers are putting into the project. In particular, their efforts to give the player choice in their own personal narative is impressive. Even more so is their staggering commitment to have nearly every interactable NPC actually speak to you curtousy of top notch voice acting. It's the best possible melding of Bioware's exceptional drive for detail and LucasArts... well, they're participating a bit I hope.

2. I cannot see how it would hurt.

Ah yes, and did I mention the stuning graphics? No? Then yes, the beautiful visual display is also a major selling point.

If only this was not set in the totally boring pre "actual SW" universe. And in SW games, everybody just plays a goddamn Jedi or Sith. :P

Is anyone playing SWOTOR? I just started a couple weeks ago (I guess I'm behind the times).

Yeah, it's still up. Most things seem to work. It's weird when you start, because the keyboard commands are VERY bad. It doesn't take any mouse input for anything but movement (which is *bizarre*, I have NO idea what they were thinking when they used this control scheme). so you have to know what keys open what (ESC for example doesn't open the settings, which is dumb), so you can change it to SWG Modeless. Then it's back to what any rational person would consider "normal" (obviously this wouldn't do for people like Laith, as it is FAR to normal for him to enjoy :p).

I don't think they are far away from calling it version 1.0 - but I haven't played enough. All I know is that it looks and feels the same, there's still no real missions other than "go to X, shoot everything, destroy spawn point, get credits" and that Jump to Light Speed won't be added until 1.0 is out.

Yup, movement was weird but nothing you cant get used though. Crafting was pretty adv but gathering was bugged. Did they fix it?

As said, you can go into the controls and set it to "SWG modeless" and it's just as it should be, with keyboard movement (WASD), full keyboard control (ctrl-I for inventory, for example) and mouse "look/GUI use"

Don't know about crafting/gathering. I played, as usual, a carabineer and it was pretty hard, because almost ALL the enemies I found, even right outside Bestine or Mos Eisley, were "kill me within two, three hits" enemies.

Yes I remember that... Only to get worse the more you travel. More a survival than a hunt
