Rank needs to be based on ability and not combat skill. I see little reason to restrict promotions more than they already are, especially since the quick movement of personnel on the roster is one of the flip-sides to having a smaller fleet.

Honestly, while Advanced Combat Certifications are nice, there just isn't really a use for them. I know this is exactly what Daemon said when it was considered last time, but maybe he was right.

Unless, Mr. Semm, you mean Advanced Certifications for other types of courses, in which case it must be understood that it's an officer's perogative to write a course, so we really can't go forcing people (except CD Zwibble! ) to create courses (which take a lot of work; I just put in 6 hours yesterday for one ).

This is actually kind of funny. High Command has been considering advanced combat certifications, actually. However, they will not affect rank / position in any way. They are just an indication of one's devotion to the Imperial cause, just as doing more and more BCCs is.

Perhaps the only place where they might come into play is if we were to send a representative Scimitar Squadron to a competition some time. Then we might consider who's got more gaming experience than whom.

The Admiral's points on Advanced certifications are about the only practical use for ACCs, IMO. Now for other courses which build technical knowledge, advanced courses are quite useful, if not tedious to build.

Who knows? Someday I'll get to those IRC courses, and maybe even get around to picking up mIRC, so the good WC will quit saying "Mitchell, you should really get [random chat client]" every time I get on the chat channels .

But actually, technical courses aren't that hard to create. You just need to have research on the topic (which varies; for OM, I spent hours just checking out the physics and math behind it all, but for the Admin course I'm writing, I did no research, because, well, I know it all ), a bit of time, and dedication to see it through.

And besides, it generally yields a nice shiney at the end (*hint hint*, Zwib, I want a SS to finish my collection *hint hint* ).

Yes, even the great WC can leave himself in ruts lf predictability and repeteiveness . It's alright, you could be spending your whole life smashing watermelons like Gallagher .

I will probably revamp the materials for my Army Personnel Exam, even though it doesn't exactly fall into the good Commodore's plans for the Academy (life skills first, SW second). But with my new professorship already coming, and 30 hours of my week dedicated to cashiering at a local grocery store, time has gotten a little bit tighter lately (and that 4,000 word paper desperately needs more than the title page that I've left it with....first draft due 8/8/05, yikes!!!).

Err...I meant that we will rise up required GAME!!! ranks for Adv.Cert, not that passing this Cert. will rise up GE rank!!!

Ah... well, yes, that is a possible requirement for any advanced certification, along with a higher kill/victory count and missions/campaigns completed, etc.

You could go for a Sharpshooter CC, where the accuracy has to be something insane like 95%

Let's get some Advanced courses finished before we start talking about the hyper-advanced ones.
