Patrick Calder sighed as he surveyed what lay around him. Everywhere, maps of the sector. Detailed maps. On them he had a holographic ISD and VSD, to represent the Nemesis and Warhammer.
He moved the Warhammer icon out next to a pulsing green dot. The green dot represented the Rebel facility the Empire was meant to take. Elsewhere, he had already moved the Nemesis icon to reflect Wedge's decision to rob a Rebel supply depot, and then destroy it.
Calder brought up the lights. He wanted to address the fleet. To tell them how important it is that they perform their very best. The Empire was doomed to fail without their efforts. He brought up the recorder, and prepared to record the message for broadcast, just like Fel once did. It was somehow easier than doing it live. Not that Fel ever seemed to mind doing it live.
Calder pushed the button to begin recording. "Officers of the Empire..."

Wedge sipped at his caf on the bridge again. He didn't feel good about leaving the ISD Chimaera, but he chose to take out this Rebel staging area instead. Better to pre-empt the attack, he felt, than to wait for it to come to the shipyard when the Rebels were ready.
Soon the Nemesis would drop from hyperspace. The pilots were already aboard their ships. This was going to be a two-part operation.
The Dreadnaught from the past was inspected and declared fit for duty. It had been renamed Flame III, at Wedge's decision. Commander Laithlis and a few pilots were aboard it. They would come in at the platform. The Nemesis would hit from the other side, producing a double-prong effect that would capture anything trying to escape, in a so-called "Hammer and Anvil" attack.
Wedge looked at the bridge chronometer. The Flame III should have dropped from hyperspace about five seconds ago. The Nemesis was still a bit away. He could only hope that there wasn't any nasty surprise awaiting them. If there was, there would be no way of knowing until it was far too late...

Captain Vortagh tapped on the transparisteel canopy of Commander Muscat's loaned fighter. Muscat popped his head out of it and asked "Ye s sir?"
"Your squad is ready?"
"Yes, sir." Muscat had his crew training in simulators recently to fly the new GUNs. He had never expected his next mission would be to get everyone to fly T/As. But he did, and now everyone was strapping in.
Zeta squadron was taking the GUNs on their mission to take the Rebel facility. So Iota was flying Zeta's normal craft, TIE Advanced. Calder had wanted the Warhammer to take a Rebel manufacturing facility, rather than take out some Rebel scouts. Vortagh insisted that the Warhammer do both. So it left Muscat in a bind. His group had relatively little T/A experience. But they were being sent out anyway.
Vortagh always liked doing both. Even if it was going to be difficult for the Empire. He liked the risk, when the reward was right.
Muscat sat back down and strapped in once again. Almost time for the hpyerspace jump, and then... showtime.
