New Legion Ranks!
Moderator: High Command
True dat, but a question - is there any "active" member count of theirs? So one can see how many are really left?

The first kind of member, of course. The second example isn't "active".

Yep, I've got to go with "a", as well. I see no reason to overhaul the Navy's ranks when the system we have now works fine, is simple, and quite easy to learn.
Longstreet: I think it fits a great deal of us, actually. But yes. interesting times, those. It's a shame the outcome was what is was.

I have to disagree. Something working does not mean it is the best.
This requires much thought that you people have to do, but just shrugging it off because "ehh, it works, why bother?" is a bad idea.
If it works, then why change the Legion ranks? Why add new games? Why..?
You get my point?

We could change this to build a better class of Lieutenants, what were the words Gabriel Martin used?

Isn´t that Sub-Lieutenant in another word? The term is used in some countries I think, and I prefer SL to LJG.
That´s my opinion, I could be wrong (but I think that´s not the case)

Yeah, it doesn't really matter to me if it is Sub-LT, LTJG, 2nd LT or underLT - if at all we should think about additional steps. Like LC+ for Squadron commander and so on.

yes but you need to use a syestem like the legion has so that experanced and active officer can be rewarded... and protomted in rank when they have proven themselfs... so 1 dosent have to wait for some 1 to resign or become AWOL for a spot to open up to promote....
think of it this way... if an active Person in the legion has proven themselfs they can be promoted....
In the navy, we need to wait for some 1 to kick the bucket before we can promote... i dont know about you guys but is a few higher navy officers leave the GE any time soom (or get promote them selfs) I'm going into the legion
where, if i may say so Fleet Admiral Pol, i dont have to deal with this stuff... and i can get promoted by my actions and being active... sir... nothing agenst you or any other person in the GE (execpte Syrtaris
) but in manny other gameing Teams (ex: EH, IO, IDO) its just that...
...you get to really earn your rank, not this replacement prosses. I know part of earning 1s rank is to wait for your time,... and i Shall wait... but not is a prossess like this...
I really do believe the GE is the Best out there, i'll write a 500 word report if you want me to prove it, but ever fraction has thier problems... and i want to help the GE fix them so i can say i helped in any way i could to make it the best...
when i first entered if your all remember i asked any 1 and every 1 if there was anyting i can do to help (and i still do). Some say i was going over the top... and maybe i was, but cant you see why i wanted to help and why i still want to help?
I might be out of place here [and 1 of high command is going to say i'm not, and that the Ensigns, Sls, and Lt.s make up the GE and are its foundation and is core...etc.] but didnt calder say we are starting from a clean slate... well then lets start over and not make the same mistakes sirs...
...how about creating a senate or something like it... where us (the lower peeons) can have a say in some things... or just make a time where we can all express our ideas....
...if i have offened any of you i'm sorry, but some of you need to see this. I honesty dont have any big problems... just alot of little 1s... but i MUST say that honestly if any 1 deletes this... i will have a problem because i think i need to say this and everone needs to hear me...
...once again i'm sorry if any of my actions were wrong... if need be i will understand if you put me up for trial... i shall stand tall and prowd because i think that i have surved the Emperor, the Empire, the GE, and the Fleet Admiral to the best of my abbilites... and with your permission Pol... i wish to continue to serve you all (even Syrtaris)

Trying to make a point...
It already starts when you are an Ensign in the GE. You want to be promoted.
Now, with the current system of EN-SL-LT, this first step is already hard.
You need to wait for somebody to leave or somebody to get promoted, so everybody "steps one step forward".
In my eyes that was *always* one of the great flaws in the GE. People want to be promoted if they show good activity. They don't want [insert shiny metal object here], but they want a new rank, to prove themselves.
Now, this EM-to-SL step, is the easiest and fastest in the GE. Sadly that means nothing, because, as said above, even though it is the fastest to achieve, doesn't mean that it actually IS fast to achieve.
Still, with this example we can still go with the exception that there are a nice number of SL spots, so ENs still have a good chance that a spot is open.
Now enter SL-to-LT upgrade.
There we already have a few big problems.
First of all, there's only a very small number of LT spots available, so the "need to wait for death/leave/awol/etc" isn't the only thing that causes problems.
Second - and very important! - I know (and knew) quite a few people who rather serve as squadron leader than LC/CM or even CP/CL. What does that mean? Right. Their places aren't even available and those are not only one or two people in the GE, so we might have a problem.
So again, I propose the system that you guys should seriously think about:
Cadet - Academy
Ensign to Lieutenant - Flight member
Lieutenant Commander/Commander -Flight Leader
Captain to Major (Everything else would be overkill in my eyes) - Squadron leader.
If it made sense for the Legion, then why on earth shouldn't it for the navy? First of all it would finally disctinction between Navy and fighter corps (and there IS a difference, especially rank wise. Navy doesn't have a rank of Colonel for example, fighter corps does!) and it would also give those who work hard to deserve a promotion, a promotion - without the need of becoming an SL or LT.
Then there is another thing and as much as I hate to say this, it has to be said.
In the old GE most Captains and Commanders rather looked how active and good a squadron leader applicant is in writing fancy emails to them. "Ah, he writes how active he'll be. That's good. He has the job" basically describes it.
This is not only inappropriate, but also death for the squadron.
If somebody has no idea how to be an SL, he/she shouldn't be an SL - regardles if he/she has been active or not.
If he/she cannot lead, then he/she shouldn't and believe me, we always had more than enough people who couldn't, but did, in those very squadrons.
With the current system you go thru three steps and you are almost a Captain - without even meaning you actually know what you are doing.
(and come on, the Exams are not really that hard. Everybody can pass them with flying colors. They mean basically nothing. Allthough I hate to constantly point to things the EH did - that overblown moloch that it is - they have a few things that ARE better than ours. And as much as I dislike them, their system and their people, they still had and have a much more active populace than the GE ever had and they will keep that for quite a time.)
So - not only does this mean that people who are active, but not able to lead would now be able to still be rewarded, it would also mean that those who might be able to lead, but aren't at this moment, could be promoted and then trained/observed, rather than just promote them and throw them into a position they are unprepared/unable to fill - without having them rot as lowly ensign forever and a day.
The Navy - the squadrons to be correct - is the biggest part of the GE at the moment. Yet it is the one that has never seen any progress, while the Legion, being only two years old (or was it three? Can't remember, sorry.) , has already seen countless improvements and lots of progress.
The Navy is already on the move back, with flightsims not being developed in favour of first person shooters. Do you want to scare the last members away, by implementing an acient, stupid system?
One of the most important parts in my eyes is the seperation of this unholy "Imperial Navy = Fighter Corps" thing. (The Navy is not the fighter corps. Not even the navy pilots of the US Navy wear navy ranks. They just fly planes with "navy" on them and are part of the navy). It would not only make things more logical, but also add a few more needed ranks (as the navy ranks basically stop at Captain).
But even if you keep them together as one unit, still call it "navy" (like in the US Navy) and just basically drawn the separation only in head and ranking system, it would still work out and better than before!
And don't forget: This isn't an option, it is mandatory. The question is if you wanna be smart and implement it now, while member count is still low, when only a small number of things has to be changed and only a small number of people need to re-wire their brains for the new system - OR - if you wanna be not-smart (:P) and do it later, when you might have more people and thus more stuff to change.
Again: It was a good and great thing to change the Legion ranks. I am damned sure you'll implement the same system to the Army - SO WHY NOT FOR THE NAVY?!
It makes sense.
It is better.
It is not "undoable".
It would not "mess everything up". <- If it did that, then why change the Legion? Oh boy, is the Legion messed up now, oh boy oh boy...
Ok, I hope people finally understand how important this is.
