(Hunter, if you read Star Wars X-wing: Wedge's Gamble, you'll understand a little better. In that book while visiting the Galactic Museum on Coruscant, undercover members of Rogue Squadron learned of the Imperial "propoganda" concerning the Death Stars. It claimed that the Second Death Star was actually a planetary ore extractor, and the Rebels at Endor were planning to steal it and turn it on an inhabited planet. I just elaborated a little more on the "propoganda".)

Yes, we destroyed Alderaan. But so what? Think on it now:
While the scales have tipped somewhat since then, the Empire is doing nothing more than trying to police the galaxy - a public service, if you will. But the Rebels are out to throw the whole galaxy into anarchy. The destruction of Alderaan was not a random act of terror - it was part of an effort to ensure the survival of our way of life.
Now, the Rebels claim that Alderaan was "peaceful" and "had no weapons". Yeah, right.
Who was in charge of Alderaan? Leia Organa. Who was she? One of the lead Rebels. When Vader intercepted her ship, she was ferrying stolen Imperial documents and committing treason. She was bringing said documents to her foster father who was the viceroy of Alderaan. She tells Tarkin that Alderaan is defenseless, and points him in the direction of Dantooine instead, with the supposed intent of betraying the Rebels there.
BUT SHE LIES! Everything she tells Vader and Tarkin is purposely false. So, I do not believe she was telling the truth when she claimed that Alderaan was innocent. Rather, I believe the planet was a hotbed of rebellion and its destruction amounted to no more than the simple execution of traitors to the New Order.
Did we blow up Alderaan? You're damn right we did. And you know what, I'd do it again.
