Grand Admiral
There were twelve (or thirteen?) Grand Admirals at any time (though the total might be greater if we consider attrition and replacement). Each is directly appointed by the Emperor and directly responsible to him. There is no higher authority within the Imperial navy, and only a proxy from the Emperor, like Lord Vader, can command the Grand Admirals. Grand Admirals do not have any political territory; their sphere of duty is the Empire as a whole. It is reasonable to assume that most Grand Admirals are associated with High Command on Coruscant, or else patrol the whole galaxy as Lord Vader does. Grand Admiral Thrawn, the thirteenth person appointed to this rank, spends many years completing secret missions for the Emperor in the Unknown Regions of the galaxy. Grand Admiral Thrawn never wore code cylinders in any illustration seen to date. STAR WARS Essential Chronology accounts for the fates of most of Thrawn's peers, but (interestingly) suggests that several Grand Admirals perished aboard the second Death Star as well.
The traitorous and ambitious Zaarin who attempted a coup against the Emperor in TIE Fighter, wore a Grand Admiral's uniform during his bid for power. Whether this was a legitimate promotion is unknown. [It should be noted that the flight-simulation computer games are somewhat unreliable when it come to ranks and uniforms: there have been times when Thrawn was depicted in Grand Admiral uniform before his elevation to that rank.]
Grand Admiral Tigellinus was a player in the intrigues of Emperor Palpatine's court when Executor formally entered service and Thrawn was a lower rank of Admiral. [STAR WARS Adventure Journal #12]
Grand Admiral Synn was killed during the Liberation of Kashyyyk, in battle against Admiral Ackbar. [Star Wars Essential Chronology]
Grand Admirals Grunger and Pitta turned warlord and eliminated each other in battle over the Corellian sector. [Star Wars Essential Chronology]
Grand Admiral Takel was executed by Trioculus. [Star Wars Essential Chronology]
Grand Admiral Il-Raz was fanatical, and commited suicide by plunging his flagship into the heart of the Denarii Nova. [Star Wars Essential Chronology]
Grand Admiral Batch was assassinated by his second in command, and then his ships were moved to join with Warlord Harrsk. [Star Wars Essential Chronology]
Grand Admiral Grant was thought to be the last officer of his rank. He defected to the New Republic two years after the Battle of Endor, and under an amnesty he retired to Rathalay. [Star Wars Essential Chronology]

Remember the true last Grand Admiral, first and only appointed to this rank by the GE ruler (in this case: Moff Council) after the death of the Emperor, Gilad Pellaeon!

He lost some battles against the rebels, he won some battles against the rebels.
He hadn´t dissappeared after Thrawn´s dead, he safed the remaining fleet with retreating into the core till Coruscant (badly to crazy Isanne Isard).
He was a tactical genious even if he was not able to show it very often in battle against rebels, but did so as good as possible against the Yuzhaan Vong. And remember: his maybe biggest service to the Galaxy was the peace treaty with the republic, the "official" end of the civil war and the basic for the Galactic Alliance that fought back the Vong later.
So: 14 GAs (+ our lost GEBB)

Actually Pellaeon was my favorite charecter next to Thrawn, but I'm still reading all the books. (I HATE DARKSABER!!!) Maybe this is a good time to bring this up. Who was our former GA, and what happened to him? Everyone talks about him, but I joined only a little while ago, and I am still dealing with ignorance.(I hope I spelled that right)

The man known as "Daemon":
(Note: I don´t know everything
)
He was the founder of the GE (1998?).
As told he served in the empire for a long time. In his time a Systems Force was commanded by an Admiral, but on his young age and "short" time of service he lead a Systems Force as as Vice Admiral. After the defeat of Thrawn he was contacted on a high security channel from the ISD Chimaera and he rushed for a meeting. As told he found the Emperor, who promoted him to Grand Admiral and Supreme Commander. He gave him the ISD Chimaera and the ISD Nemesis (both were part of Thrawn´s fleet) and with this ships and the remaining VSDs, FRGs and Corvetts he commanded the GE on two sectors.
Slowly growing in numbers the GE and the navy spread until there were
many AWOLs and heavy network problems appeared. With time the official
updates like promotions, medals, ladders, etc. haven´t been made and contact with the GA was very quiet. In 2001/2002 he announced the major project "Empire Reborn" to reconstruct the network. This took some months/years, lost the goal and wasn´t really completed. Then every contact with him was lost and after a time of radical thoughts the true "Empire Reborn" was constructed under FA Polanski.
I think I heard somewhere that the personell Starfighter of the GA was missing, but I´m not sure about it, so he´s countec as "Missing in Action".
That´s all, thanks for every additional posts about this here!
No sleep, job, rain and now this, I need a coffee!

Thank you very much for the info. I'll try to add some sections on Pellaeon and Daemon.
CPT Nathan, the reason I hate darksaber, is because there is NO plot development!!! They have 7 characters with 5 chapters each. They cycle them in short 2 chapter cycles. A full run of these cycles takes around 100 pages, so they have 4 100 page cycles. They didn't say half enough about Dalaa and Pellaeon!
I had respect for Anderson before I read this book, but after... I'm reading the Jedi Academy Trilogy now. I sure hope it's better.
Long live the Grand Admirals and Timothy Zahn!

Or a little more realistic information on Daemon.
As said, he founded the GE in 1998 and until spring 2001, everything was actually running quite well.
All of a sudden, he vanished for what? 2 months? Or even 3? Anyways, he came back and said he had problems with his network (which made a few people, including yours truly, wonder why the hell he couldn't be bothered to drop into a cybercafe and write an email/mb post telling us about it and maybe even appointing a temporary FC.
From then on, everything went down the drain. Important stuff like adding new games and cleaning/updating the roster was more and more neglected and he started to appear only every two weeks on the meetings, yet he held onto the old way and continued to talk how all was well and at every meeting we'd hear the good old "XYZ is almost done and will be completed at the end of the weekend/week." or "you will have an email on that in your inbox within 24 hours." - nothing ever got finished and we never recieved any of the emails. Ever.
After a while the voices who thought that there should be an aide for him, so that normal GE operations (back then mostly Navy) could be taken care off, while the GA concentrated on the more important features of the GE, were loud enough that he actually created such a position - with almost no powers at all, so it was mostly useless.
This continued for a while until some people (again, including yours truly) openly declared him to be ineffective and left. It was at this point, that he presented his "Empire Reborn" thing and said everything would be reworked, blablabla.
Empire Reborn was supposed to be over in a few months - after 15 it still wasn't. In the meantime, we heard the standard "24 hours/weekend" thing on every second saturday. That is IF the GA was actually attending. We had lots of times where he didn't show up, sometimes not for two meetings in a row, without any excuse or explanation.
At January 17th 2004 we heard the last of him and after a while Pol took over.
Most people agreed that he didn't want to tell us that he didn't have any interest in the GE anymore.

P.S.: To give you an example of his screwedupness, I am still waiting for more than a few medals that I earned in *2000* and was told pretty much every few months (when I bothered to talk to him about it), that they would be issued "soon", or that he'd be "working on that in the next day". More than once I sent him the actual emails with the "Vortagh was awarded this'n'that medal" line in them, cause he lost them (or couldn't find them).

Again thanks for the info. O.K. Does anyone else have stories about GA Daemon. Before I post a section about him on the Archive, I wan't to get the whole story. I would appreciate any more info anyone has on him. I will have to reconsider what I already wrote about him. But everyone can see stuff about 14 of the GAs now. Just go to the historical archives and clidk on "The Twelve" project.
P.S. I love the logo on your thing vort, the little bang your head against the wall. How do you do that? Thanks
