I know that certain clubs, such as the American Legion and the VFW, do have some dress codes. But usually it's no cut off shirts or tank tops, and
in some, no hats! (which sucks, cause I like to cover up my balding head!)
There are some other non-military private clubs in the area, so I would guess they have some kind of rules about dress. As far as regular bars, about the only time you won't get served is if you appear to be drunk already! And they will only kick you out if your causeing trouble.

As far as I am aware the club in question is not a private members club - private members clubs can do pretty much whatever they like with regards membership.

The issue is sticky because one of the stated reasons for excluding straight people (and lesbians) is that they damage the atmosphere for the gay people.

Now, I can open a straight bar and say that gay people are damaging the atmosphere, by acting the wrong way and confusing everyone about who to hit on. Based on this precedent, if I was in Ozland I could then take it to court and have a judge order that I can exclude someone purely because of their sexuality - not because they're annoying people, or because they're running the atmosphere, but *just* because of their sexuality.

It is then a very slippery slope - if you can legally exclude people from a bar (note: NOT a private members club) for being straight, you can exclude them for being gay. If you can exclude people for their sexuality (note: NOT for behaving in an obnoxious way, but JUST for their sexuality) can you then exlude them because of their race or religion?

It's not really a big deal as relates to the USA because as far as I know rights as relating to sexuality are not protected anyway - but it certainly is a verrrrrry important issue in countries were anti-discrimination laws include sexuality.

Indeed it is.
The oppression of various people often leads to discrimination against them being considered old and evil, while these various people discrimination of "normal" people usually is considered modern and cool.
If a straight can be kicked for being straight then of course a gay can be kicked for being gay. Otherwise, it is pure discrimination by the state.
