How did we get so off-topic?
Anyway, the German Navy is pure fiction too.
My cousin in the fictionate Swedish Navy says that the suits usually only take
1-2 minutes to take on.
Do that may not be the same suits that you are talking about.

Vort: Yes, it was incredibly boring. There were a bunch of us though, so we could at least talk to each other.

As far as how fast they go on....in absolutely perfect conditions, the fastest I ever saw one get put on was in about 45 seconds (we were having a race to see who could suit up the fastest). However, since whenever you would have to put one on for real conditions would be less than ideal, I would give it a couple minutes. They're not too tight, but can be rather stiff since they're stored in a rolled-up position.

The slang name for them is "Gumby Suit" because you look kinda like that old kid's tv show character Gumby when you wear them.

They're reasonably insulating, I imagine? How cold/warm/sweaty does one get in a survival suit?

They are insulating, that's the whole point. They also have built in flotation. I was chilly in it when I did that training, but considering I was in ~5 degree C water, I'd say it worked pretty well.

It's not something you run around in on shore on a warm day, so I don't know how warm you'd get in it. I suspect you'd start to cook pretty quickly though in that situation. It would probably be quite comfortable in a tropical sea, though.

Certainly safer, if for no other reason then the flotation. Hypothermia may not be a problem in the tropics, but the water is still going to leach body heat.
