George Lucas doesn't mind fan films per se - which means making a film under the general name of Star Wars.
This has nothing to do with using anything from his movie (which, regardless if HE would let you, doesn't mean the countless other organisations involved, the publisher for example) would like to see it.

This doesn't even start to cover something completely different like games, novels, etc that are not directly connected to the movies themselves.
Even if Georgy says "You can use everything from my movies, HEY! Just take them and sell them on your local street corner!" you would NOT automagically be allowed to do the same with a game, novel, etc under the Star Wars license.

Almighty George will never kneel before the combined forces of Petroglyph, Pandemic, Totally games and Raven Software!
These evil abominations must be stopped before applying further damage to Almighty George´s name.
Presumably by not giving a crap about copyright´s and the like.

Except those games are published by Lucasarts, so they kind of have licenses to make those games.

Published yes, but the developer´s also got a say.
Besides, Almighty George don´t have time to look into every fan movie and insteed many decisions are left in the hands of uncaring morons who don´t even know the name of every character in the Holy Trilogy.

Well, this seems to be making a huge controversy :P

But anyway, Vort, thanks for you saying you'd teach me somethings that I didn't know. I appreciate that.

But, like I was saying, be entering the film into the SW fan film awards, we gain alot of legal standpoints.

1) It would be legal now to use SW stuff from anything (games, movies, ect) in our movie. That helps in the long run.

2) Theses awards are hosted every year, so, what's the rush? We take our time.

3) The only thing I see as a hindrance is that all entries have to be under 10 mins long. They allow exceptions as some movies were shown that were 20-30 mins long. Maybe we should make short 'chapters' that split one movie into a few smaller ones. It kinda helps, at least I think so.
