The GE:ER: A Movie

Post by Colestock »

Hey Everyone!

Its me, SL Colestock and boy, did I ever have a Brain Blast!

I was going to make a Star Wars Fan Movie, but decided, why not make A movie about us instead?

I however have no video camera, but I do have Audacity (Audio Program), and Windows Movie Maker, and boy the movie is ever so lovely!

I can even put sound from Star Wars: Empire At War into the movie, as I extracted the audio files with a program I have.

I will need help to do this video. All of the GE:ER are welcome to help, but i warn you, its not as easy as it looks, we'll definatly need some major video editing in some places.

PS: Please tell me how to put the video into this forum and I'll do it. The video is just in My Documents, not on the Internet.

You need to upload it to a host first, then give us a link to download it from.

Or... you could use YouTube. I believe you can upload videos to there. :P

As far as I understood the movie ist still in pre-production.

How´s with the general technique? You want to use actors/RL-persons or not?

Well, I was Planning to do anything the Movie required.

Since we are all for the most part separated in real life, (we live across the world) I thought that maybe we could take Video shots of most of the High Command, and Seinor Officers, and try to mix the shots with each other, to make it look like everyone is in the same Room/Corridor, with everyone interacting with each other. We'd just combine all our work.

I layed down the ground work, but I will need your help on this.

The problem is, that unless you want it to look like suck, it will need loads of tinkering. Manpower alone will be a problem, simply because everybody always screams "me! me!" but once it comes to doing the actual work, all of a sudden the room will fall *really* quiet.
I mean, you have to ask yourself if you want to make a movie that looks like it was done by a couple of people who have no idea how to use a camera, let alone act, have no costumes or sets ....
You can trust me to know how expensive even the smallest fan film project can be, as long as it's not supposed to look even remotely like it's done by two guys with a camera and a (pirated) copy of Photoshop, so they can have a lightsaber duel.
Just look at the fan "film" section of TheForce.Net - everything remotely *good* you see there is done by people who spent weeks or months getting their skills together. Which brings us back to the manpower problem. (And even then I'd rather not want to release most of the stuff posted there)
Sure, if you have let's say 10 people, who make movies in their free time, know their way around cameras and sound (*very* important), editing and scripts, happen to have said equipment on hand and also happen to live close to each other, it's going to be a blast and most likely will look at least decent.

However, you propose an organisational nightmare. At least several people, without camera training, without sound training, recording themselves with several different camera models (IF they have one). That alone is never going to work. Add to that the fact that unless they all happen to have cameras with an iLink output, they would have to send their data on tape to the guy who edits the video. That means that HE has to deal with getting cameras who are able to play the tapes. Not even mentioning that you won't have the same lighting in all the scenes. Imagine the Death Star conference room scene, where every Imperial has a different luminosity in his scene.
Also, one would have to film each scene on green screen, so it could be added onto the same background - which means that each of them has to build a green screen.

Believe me, I am the head of a small amateur movie team and I already have to do loads of the work myself: Script writing (even though at least I mostly just deal with getting a script into propper form "on paper"), camera and sound (thankfully it's easily combined with a good MD player and earphones while sitting behind the camera), post production editing and FX.
If you add to that the fact that I tend to be the driving force behind the whole crew and also have to have my hands (and ideas) in props, sound, organisation, catering, legal [also important!], ....
This was just to give you a small overview on what you need for a decent amateur movie.

I also had the idea of meeting up in the US at one point (long long time ago), to film a fan-version of a few Thrawn scenes from the books - even that idea would have meant lugging my entire gear to the US and organizing (from abroad) several dozen people.

Fine, then Ill do this movie by myself, and I meant to say that we'd take Star Wars fan flicks, and the movies, and edit them together to get what we want.

Trust me, it's working fine for now.

I'm watching it and posting comments as I go.

1) Justify the text on the starting scrolling text.
2) Add subtitling to the movie.

Other than that, check your spelling and grammer. :P

Yo!

Version 0.2 here!

Check it out: http://files.filefront.com//;6429757;;/

Its better. I hope.

But as for finnishing it soon, no chance at all. We'll have to see it sometime next year.

Don't mind the version numbers. It just makes it easier to keep track of, and it sounds good to say it too.

Lieutenant Reem is also helping me now, and giving me emotional support.

Mr. Burton is helping me too, by giving me comments on what to fix. Good man munro, Good man. It makes my work much easier!

Oh by the way I contacted Lucasfilm today. They are going to hopefully reply soon.
