Best Imperial Fleet Composition for Empire at War

Post by Xanatos Dannell »

I just started playing Forces of Corruption, and I am curious as to what sort of fleet compositions have worked best for us. Most often, on E a W, I work with 4 ISDs and two lancers, but I am often find myself overwhelmed from Rebel starfighters, although I do very well against capital ships. What sort of fleet composition works best for all of you?

In the original EaW, I went with 4 VSDs and 4 Tartans. That works against most things. I do call up a few ISDs if the dastardly Rebels have built up a level 5 station somewhere, though.

That probably would work in FoC too. But the 'vanguard' feature of fleets in FoC should let you bring along a sizeable fleet - just send a lone fighter squadron in first, then bring in whatever else you need.

My best high lvl fleet composition would be about 3 ISDs a coulple of tartans about 3 i suppose and a around 3 tie defenders. more if nessary but the composition that Burton has is great if the enemy doesnt have a 5 space station or an cap ship. Though it wouldnt work against Consotium do to the Vengence class frigate they can do good damage to VSD if left alone ( do to mass drivers ).

That's why the VSDs are used - they deploy as many TIE Bombers as ISDs and you can throw more of them into the field. You then use the Bombers to take out the mass drivers first, then get them working on other hardpoints.

I take them out first. Really, your Bombers are the best way to win. Here's the basic flowchart...

Bombers>Heavy Capitals>Cruisers>Frigates>corvettes/gunships>bombers

So, just send your heavy caps after the anti-fighter ships while the bombers concentrate on the heaviest enemy ships. Shield generators are good targets, but so are hangars and engines. Leave regular lasers and ion cannons for last - unless your only units are bombers, in which case, hit the regular lasers first.

Of course, you Naval officers should already know that without a groundpounder telling you your jobs. ;)

Hello new guy lol hmm wait now looking at the Rosters for System force 2 the EAW support ships have even crew ( 8 for all). hmm interesting on where u going to go but probly some ensigns not active for awhile will be bumped from one the support ships. i suppose how that works anyways back to topic at hand.

I tend to have Thawn as the leader of my froces whenever i build a fleet ( or exacutor in a GC). I just love his assault abillity dont you?

See, the thing about heroes is that they're essentially free. Stick Thrawn, Piett and Rom Mohc into a fleet and you've expanded it by more than two ISDs and a VSD-equivalent.

Which would ordinarily cost you over 10k credits. And they give you combat bonuses. Fun.

I generally have Vader, 1-2 ISDs (Commanders, likely), and the rest are Vics. After all of the fighters are deployed, I lead with caps to engage the usual Corvette screen, then work bombers around for ShieldGen and Hangar hadpoints, before furballing from there.

Well, I like Forces of Corruption. The Zaan are pretty annoying, though.

Well I am only talking about the multiplayer factor. That´s the only thing the EaW series is worth for anyway.
