Chinook History

------------

The Chinook, a Nebulon-B Frigate was built at the Kuat Drive Yards two years after the Battle of Yavin. It had a crew of 920 plus fighter pilots. It was originally designed to escort the Star Destroyer Conquest during its patrol in the Outer Sector but, with the recall of numerous Star Destroyers to cover the gap left by Vadar’s Death Squadron, prior to the Battle of Hoth, it was left to patrol alone. For this assignment it was refitted from the original 12 Borstel RH8 Laser Cannon Batteries and 12 Taim and Bak XI7 Turbolaser Batteries to 14 a piece. This would later become its down fall. During a routine patrol of the Outer Sector near Nal Hutta space, it came in contact with a Rebel taskforce who was attacking Imperial ships in an attempt to keep the Empire from guessing where the Rebel base was. The taskforce had several Mark II Assault Frigates which moved to engage the Chinook. The Chinook with its additional firepower and fighters was able to hold the enemy at bay. However, the Nebulon-B was never designed to power all the additional batteries. As a result of the additional guns and the captain’s attempt to keep the shields at maximum resulted in an overload of the generator which caused all power to shut down to prevent explosion. The captain had no choice but to abandon ship. The Rebels towed the ship to a friendly shipyard and replaced the power generator. The next part of its history is a little fuzzy but it is known that the Rebel refitted the Chinook, now named the Olinor. It was stripped of most of batteries and even enclosed one of the hangars and was made into a medical frigate. Some intelligence states that some high ranking Rebels where healed on this ship. It was present at both the Battle of Hoth and Endor. It was not present again until the Victory Star Destroyer Warhammer disabled it during a raid on a Rebel facility in the Outer Sector. It was sent back to Yiga Minor Shipyard for rearming. It was here that the true identity of the frigate was discovered. It was rearmed and was near completion when the Imperial Star Destroyer Chimera came in for service. As a result the Chinook completion was delayed until the Chimera was finished. It now is a support vessel for fleet. It fulfills numerous roles including medical ship and carries supplies needed to continue to bring the fight to the enemies of the Empire.
