Unit Reports:
1st Brigade
Submitted on 2005-06-02 by Captain Mitchell
Brigade XO Report, 6/01/05
These will not come along very often, no more than once per month,
unless Colonel Fel needs me to fill in with his BRG-CO duties while on
any LOA that he might take. It's been a little while since I have made a
public report for the brigade, and many officers in the brigade may not
have seen me around as much since my promotion to BRG-XO.
As I am not in much position to give orders, this will be little more
than a personal report. Since my appointment to my new position, I have
been working more behind the scenes as assistant to General Jansen. This
job, for the moment, mainly deals with interacting with Academy cadets
in conjuction with DivComm and 2LT Branet, the Army's lead mentor. I
have written fiction for OS, and have also helped translate 2LT Branet's
OS reports as well. Translating a brief Spanish story is hard enough! I
can only imagine how hard it is to translate Marquez novels...ay
caramba!
But my real baby as far as fiction goes is being revived after staying
on the back burner for a while. I am speaking, of course, of the Broken
Chain series, part of a new wave of fiction which spread through the GE
last summer. The prologue and first four chapters are available in the
fiction section of the Imperial Archives. I don't think much of it, but
LT Zwibble, one of the finest writers in the GE's history, has given me
high marks for it, so I must be doing something right. Chapter Five is
in draft right now, and there's a slight chance that it might be in the
Archives by the end of this week. And without giving anything away, I
can say that it is the most raw, intense, and enjoyable chapter of the
series so far. Stay tuned!
I will be around all summer until the end of July and the beginning of
August. I will have pretty much no presence from 7/24-8/4 or so, and
perhaps a bit limited acitvity when school starts on 8/8. But besides
seven summer reading books, a 4,000 word essay, a Bio lab, 40 hours of
work per week, Cubs baseball and blogging to keep me busy, I will be
around daily, doing odd jobs for General Jansen (including picking up
AWOL officers to send to Jacob Junior...MUAHAHAHAHAHA!!).
Stay active any way you can is all I can order you all. Post on MBs,
stop by IRC, participate in OS, whether it be through missions, fiction,
recruiting, writing Academy courses (I have written one, but am awaiting
my 20 OS points, along with about 15 more points for fiction), banners,
whatever. When there's a will, there's a way.
In about two weeks, I will be celebrating my first year of service in
the GE. I will post a Year in Review report aroudn that time, where I
will sound of on my career up to now, and put forth my views on where we
have gone in the past year, and where I think we should go, etc. Stay
tuned for that as well. Until then, take care of yourselves, and get
involved! Dismissed...
