On the subject of a reboot....

Post by Fel »

Thanks to a rather not nice "feature" most of the posts of this were deleted, but I will provide you the (former-)HC responses:

It's not a matter of if we're too busy, it's a matter of the people don't exist to reactivate. We held for too long as it was, that's why there were constant shuffling to make do with the ever-dwindling rosters. New recruits didn't give a damn so they never graduated, the old units were closing since running the old games is a pain or impossible on modern machines...

Could we stay open with just the few people that stuck around? Sure, but what would it accomplish? We'd have very few people on any given platform, and to have the units filled out it would probably mean a single person to lead each unit.

If we open just for TOR, then we become just another RP Guild. The GE is not capable of returning to the old levels, the player base doesn't exist anymore. All of the gaming clubs (EH, DB, SV, etc) have either shrunk or disbanded, it's just the natural course; as people leave the community, the newer folk (in fewer and fewer numbers) don't know about or don't have the means to access the older games and newer games are lackluster without holding power.

I really do wish it was possible for the GE to return to "golden age" levels, but it's just not possible.

I'm just slightly frustrated that despite the Empire having been through this line of logic over and over that people continue to harp it. Perhaps I'm not giving you the benefit of the doubt though as you may not have been privy to these past discussions.

All of what Jagged says is correct. We in HC *really do* wish the Empire could return to such a height. It was so very fun for me to be involved with such an active organization at the beginning, even though the Empire was already in decline. We just don't have the manpower.

Also, I don't have a college degree yet :P But even if I did, levels of maturation don't necessarily depend on it.
Starbug wrote: Fundamentally, weren't we just another RP guild even in the golden age? Sure, the games we played were different, but the concepts is extremely similar. Guilds are busy setting up websites, forums and the like, which is what we did in the beginning. Guilds run set times for raids in much the same way we used to try to organise groups to get online at the same time to play XvT.

The main catch I'd see is that a complete reboot of the Empire Reborn is that many of the 'foundation' members aren't TOR players - which somewhat disenfranchises them from the process. Asking people who don't play TOR (and who run/manage the site) to reconfigure the entire ER just for the purpose of the people who do play TOR isn't fair on them.

If anything, I'd suggest that rather than try to turn the Empire Reborn into a TOR Guild, you start a new TOR Guild from scratch, but get permission from the powers-that-be to recruit from the ER's member base.

I'm a TOR player, though haven't joined a guild yet. I'm located on The Jekk Jekk Tar at the moment, and aren't likely to relocate when they open up Oceania servers either (as I'm relocating myself to the UK in a few months time, so it'd be a useless exercise).
Syrtaras wrote:
The Bugman is right - it just isn't our thing to turn ourselves into a TOR guild. We always had this organizational structure that was influenced by the games we played. For the flightsims we had the navy's squadrons, for the ground assault RTS games, we had the army's companies etc. (we even had the Stormtrooper Corps at some point for the first-person shooters, if I remember correctly).

We already had to invent the rather crude, clumsy and not very cool system of "bridge crews" (or... something....) for implementing Empire at War into the navy. The last time we tried adding an MMO as a platform (don't mention its name - every time you do, a Stormtrooper misses his target), the system did not work overly well. And that particular MMO was even set during the right timeline. TOR... isn't.

I guess we could try to work something out and e.g. play as the Sith Empire, but if you ask me, that just isn't the same thing. Personally, I am waiting for George Lucas to get off his mountain of gold and finally give us the live action TV show set between Ep.III and IV that he's been promising and with some luck, we'll see some new and cool games come out of that, too. Maybe we'll be able to relaunch our active combat operations then, but until that hypothetical glorious day, I guess we'll not be doing a whole lot, GE-wise.

And finally, my view:

Indeed Syrtaras and Starbug have it right. I don't have much to add to their comments except to say that having a GE:ER presence in "The Old Republic" would require time travel - and time travel has not been invented yet...

If there is ever a resurgence of "original era" games - set around the time of or after Endor - then we may be on to something. But that day is not today.

Why have I not been informed of a insult-thread on these boards? I hate you. :P (even more than usual, that is :P)

Also, not only aren't we TOR players, judging by the news I've read yesterday, even most TOR players aren't TOR players anymore. Their numbers are dropping rather spectacular.

Not surprisingly as TOR is shit. :P
