The End of Major Combat Operations

Officers of the Empire,

In the five years since Grand Admiral Daemon was sent to our corner of the galaxy by His Majesty, the Emperor, to command our forces, we have fought many battles against the forces of the Rebellion. Most of the forces that still swear loyalty to His Majesty, the Emperor, are now united in what is called "The Imperial Remnant", but we have wisely maintained our independence. Indeed, our refusal to attend the conference of loyalist forces convened by Admiral Daala two and a half years ago in fact saved Admiral Polanski's life…

The majority of the conflict since then has been between the Remnant and the forces of the Rebellion. However, the amount of conflict is now much less than it was even two years ago.

While the Rebels have often fabricated some provocation to go to war with independent regions of the galaxy they do not rule, I suspect their encounter with us in the Outer Sectors Campaign has made them think twice about their aggression against us. And where the Empire's resolve is strengthened by defeat, the Rebellion's is weakened.

Eleven years after the Empire's defeat at Endor, the Rebellion's thirst for conquest appears to have to run dry. Despite initial success, their war machine is stalled, and their internal divisions now take up all of their time and efforts. Although no armistice or treaties have been signed, the active conflict appears to be over, and we find ourselves in a "cold war".

We remain as dedicated as ever to the principle of the Galactic Empire… The failings of the Galactic Republic were plain: corruption, disloyalty, and the triumph of "special interests" over the common galactic citizen. It is my firm belief that in the fullness of time, the Rebellion itself will be forced to admit that the Galactic Empire was a far superior organization to manage the galaxy than the Galactic Republic ever was. However, we must admit to ourselves that our strength of arms alone will not bring this about.

Given this cold war scenario we find ourselves in, we now will turn our attentions inward, to focus on building our worlds and intergalactic trade. However, this means we will need fewer active duty personnel. Most of our officers and non-commissioned officers will therefore receive honourable discharges in acknowledgement of your excellent service to the armed forces of the Empire.

No doubt it will be a stark transition back to civilian life for many. To help with this, I invite you to stay in contact with your fellow Imperials using the Holonet facilities ( www.empirereborn.net/holonet/ ), which remains available for your use. Imperial Relay Chat will also continue as a method for staying in touch.

The Imperial Department of Military Research will continue to publish its non-classified discoveries, and the Office of Tactical Co-ordination will still accept simulations and repair problems. The Imperial Archives will remain open for access and contribution. Also, your service records and contributions to the Empire will be maintained.

Just in case there is some confusion...

In more "real life" terms, this isn't really the end of the GE:ER, but it is the end of the focus on gaming and of much of the structure of ranks. You will still be able to do pretty well everything you could before - communicate with your fellow members, create and fly/run missions, write stories, and so on. It is a transition, but we haven't reached the end just yet. :-)

Well Gentlemen, I know I've been in the reserves for the past two years but the time I spent while active was done with much enjoyment. It's interesting and a saddening to see this but there is comfort as the Empire has always survived and I'll be interested in seeing the end of the transition.

...it is the end of the focus on gaming...

The gaming focus was actually quite enjoyable while it lasted, though I think the major stumbling block we had was LucasArts’ failure to put out a worthy successor to the TIE Fighter, X-wing vs TIE Fighter, and X-Wing Alliance games of old. Star Wars: Battlefront and Battlefront 2 were at best a poor substitutes, and Star Wars Galaxies, which showed boundless promise in the beginning, fizzled rather badly.

However, I have to say I am quite encouraged by what I have seen of The Old Republic thus far. I would be very happy to return and participate as part of a GE contingent in that game, if anyone else is interested.

I expect we will consider some serious support for TOR when it comes out. It's my hope it does a lot better than SWG did, but the MMORPG market can be tough. :)
