Star Wars Battlefront 3 & 4

I've been looking around online and it'd seem Star Wars Battlefront 3 is still planned for release. Also interesting is on January 2010 Kotaku made an annoucement for a release of "Battlefront Online" which is said to be released to the xbox 360 and playstation 3.

I've heard no definite release date for Battlefront 3 nor anything saying that it is 100% on track to be released. As to any "Battlefront Online", since BF already has online capability and LA already has both SWG and TOR, it's highly unlikely that they would push something like that forward.

Back to BF III, though. In the second to most recent Game Informer, they had a section titled "Missing In Action" about games that have gone dormant. Battlefront made the list but they gave no additional information besides what can be found online. They rated BF's return as "Good" out of a scale from "Very Good" to "Not Good".

Naturally, this is somewhat encouraging and it would be fantastic to see the continuation of the BF series as long as it maintains the quality and comes to the PC. None of this console- or handheld-only stuff :P

Well, you see BF I & II capability is a limited source for multiplayer due to the fact it is not entirely an online-based game. Online-bases games Massively Online Role-Playing, Massiverly Multiplayer Online Strategy, and Massively Multiplayer Online Shooter are a far different format than of a orginal title that's bearing in both singleplayer & multiplayer. Star Wars Battlefront Online would not be similar to that of SWG or TOC since it would be based on a Massively Multiplayer Online Shooter which are always different concepts than of MMORPG's. Good examples would be MAG for the playstation 3 & Planetside for PC.

Lucasarts is always looking to expand the Star Wars franchise and the more game the better for them (as long as they meet standards).

If I remember right, BFIII was actually a good ways into development, but the studio that was working on it either was bought or closed, and the project died with them. The other minor BF project might have been something dumb for the PSP or whatever.

I think there is too much speculation at this point. Those images look like it's pretty far along and LA probably wouldn't dump it since it'll probably be a money maker.

Free Radical was the developer, and they were forced to downsize and cancel it. Rebellion is rumored to have picked it up, but there's no hard data and what little is known is that if BF3 ever does happen, the planet-to-space flight transitions from the Free Radical version will be completely scrapped since that was proprietary.

That was all about 6 months ago.
