Random idea about training.

Post by Hazledine »

I've just had this random idea that we could perhaps offer training of people on their platfroms... like 1 on 1. I do understand that playing is probably the best training but I was thinking of it more as you have a trainer and you go and fight whenever (arrange a time) but instead of just fighting the 'trainer' helps the 'student' with tactics and moves etc.

I was thinking mainly from the EaW front but it could work on other platforms as well. It might then perhaps persuade people to join...

Dunno, may but dumb but I'm bored! :D :P

Actually, this has been considered a certain other Rear Admiral was working on developing an EaW course where a lrage portion of the instruction would come via 1v1 tutorship. If the EaW course goes well, we hope to have similar courses set up for the other platforms as well. If this is something you're interested in working on, let me know.

Also, thanks a lot for posting the idea - I'm a big proponent of soliciting outside suggestions and this is exactly the type of thing I had in mind :D

We did this in the Army for some time, when JO combat was the primary form of MP matches. Works for a while, then people lose interest and it stops altogether. Feel free to try though, maybe it'll work better with EaW.

Talking about this... :p

Antillies and I were suppose to work on this. But so far, it's mainly Antillies who did some work. My poor English makes it tough to fill a course with explanations of what I do.

But.. it did gave me another idea.

I could create missions especially for EAW training. This doesn't mean to not do the EAW course you wanted. But here's an exemple:

The Trainee and the Trainer vs an AI. The AI doesn't have any ships or fighters. But only a Level 1 Space Station. The map is constructed in a linear form. The 2 players starts at their station where the Trainer teaches how to upgrade the station and other upgrades, to create fighters and ships.

Then move to the first objective. Capturing the mine (picture this as it would all be in a single line map). Then 2 GUN platform, one Laser and one Missiles.

Once this is achieved, the Trainer will order the Trainee to build Bombers to attack the Rebel Station.

I could make a 3 maps Training Course which would includes notes on how to proceed with the training.

Second map would be "Special Units" like Pirates and other stuff.

The third could be an easy Trainer vs Trainee map.

These maps could be Uploaded in the CC anyway but the Academy would have links to them on a specific page.

Tell me what you think about this?

I think that's worth trying. Maybe create one and see what kind of response it gets...

Mike: A really good idea. I like th trainer and trainee vs AI idea. The only part I would think to tweak abit is to give the AI the ability to fight back. Instead of giving him a dud station, maybe give him an L2 campaign style station, where it can't build anything, but gets a pair of garrison x-wings and a correllian corvette, because this then requires abit of thought and strategy on the part of the trainee, while giving a more realistic feel to a skirmish match.

Like I said, thats just one small thing I would tweak.
