Hello new guy here

Post by Xenophon Ualtar »

Hello, I just found out about GE so I decided to sign up. Definetly seems like a good organization. Nothing quite like hunting down and killing Rebel Scum, and then getting to brag about it.

I have been playing the Star Wars flying sim games since the original X-Wing game came out. I count X-Wing and Tie Fighter to be amonst my favorite games of all time. I actually have not played in awhile due to not having a joystick so that is now on my list of things to get done soon.

The only thing in my Star Wars sim career that I regret is that I never beat the Death Star run in X-Wing. I tried it countless times and died every time. I was able to get my missles off twice but was killed before they hit. *sigh* The worse thing though is that my wife did beat it so that is something that I will never live down.

I saw that some people still play Tie Fighter here and I have a question about that. How do you play it on a computer that has XP?

Well I guess that I will end my rambling. Any advice that you could give me would be appriciated.

The patch for TIE to run on XP can be found here: http://www.lucasfiles.com/index.php?s=& ... ile&id=653

We have many other useful patchs that can be found in the Imperial Department of Military Research. BRG Fel even got an SSD in there. The link for the patches can be bound here. http://idmr.imperialsquadrons.net/ We have a patch that lets you get around that Direct X bug on XP, and some other tweaks. Have fun.

We've had lots of threads about how best to get TIE to work under XP. The one that worked for me is called VDMSound... Your experience may vary... We've also had people use DOSBox, but that can be quite a bit slower.

I used the LucasFiles patch, it worked like a charm! And DOSBox is a good option if you have a very fast computer and the original DOS version of TIE (of course!)

Good to see you here so soon after signing up - if you chose TIE as your primary platform, you may well end up in Iota Squadron - by far the best squadron in the Navy!

When I signed up with the recruiter I said that my main platform would be X-Wing Alliance, but if I can get a patch for Tie Fighter to work then that might change.

If, however, you want to remain with XWA as your primary game, there is nothing to stop you later getting a BCC in any other games you own. In fact, I would encourage you to do so!

Email the Commandant if you want to change primary game platforms. Or, if you are stationed and want to change, email the Commander of the Navy. :)

Or, you could stay with XWA and bug the heck out of MAR and tell him to stop being so good at flying a TIE.

BTW, I am ALT Lee, Spearhead CO. Imp. Army all the way!

Of course you could do that...

But the question is.

Are you good enough for Psi Squadron?

Meh, I aways thought having a blaster in one hand and a grenade in the other did the job.
