Description: Lanthrym, the planet for which the system is named, is an icy world similar in many respects to Hoth. Large glacier regions have swarmed over the surface, leaving all but a few distinct regions under a frozen sheet of ice.

Those regions, however, that by chance escaped the glacial movements are some of the most lush in the system. Forsts of many kinds exist in abundance, and standing water is not uncommon. In fact, many scientists speculate that is superheated hot springs that warm the regions, working with the local sun's energy to raise the temperature to a confortable 20-25 degrees Centigrade. Because of this, natural life can survive in these areas. Large, reptilian creatures known as exsillas roam the surface of the more tropical parts, while feathered, winged flying creatures called Beloses roam the skies of the colder region, searching for prey.

The Empire runs a special aqueous vehicle research station on the Mare Scientia. This body of water is located on the equator and constitutes the largest free standing sea on the planet. Biologists have concluded that this sea most likely is the result of a small chunk of comet breaking off during a flyby. The water that did not boik was quickly melted into liquid form, where it still exists today, fed by hot springs. The odds of such a chance occurance is so small, many consider it a miracle. However, the Mare is shrinking slowly, and will perhaps disappear in the next five thousand years.
