I'm just wondering if it's a plausible idea to actually create a fully customised campaign map in EaW/FoC. Although, since this would limit Sup3 to those who have EaW, I'd go with using XWA, GB and possibly BF2 as augmentary platforms.
In fact, this could be run entirely with EaW and BF2 - both have land and space elements of a distinctly different nature.

I would tend to agree with the General, but I don't want to ostracize any of my navy boys whom only have FoC or EaW.

Let me clarify: I think space should be XWA but ground could be GB or BF II or FoC.

My only objection to using XWA for space is its low usage these days - we can see that from the completion rate on recently added missions. None of the random five in the ten newest I checked need more than one hand to be counted upon...
Of course, the same goes for participation in the ladders for all platforms. Guess it's up to the organisers of Sup3 to decide, then.

The debate you guys are having mirrors my own internal concerns. I believe that XWA is better for the scope of battles that I want, but I am concerned about its prevalence these days. Syrtaras voiced the same opinion to me.
I think what will probably have to happen is that as it gets closer to the competition and I have the other details worked out, we'll have to take stock in who owns what game.
XWA, after all, has more types of ships available. EaW/FoC has (correct me if I'm wrong) unit caps for the number of ships you can have deployed at any given time (XWA has limits too, for that matter).
But here's a thought, and perhaps an interesting one: rather than have "pilots" for the Navy, you have task force commanders and thus in EaW, you would command your own squadron of ships, and for large battles, you would coordinate with your allies in the same battle.
What needs to happen there is the Fleet Commander of each side still purchases a finite group of ships in the beginning of the game, and divides them as he deems fit amongst his task force commanders.
I don't know much about mission design in EaW - would it work to have no base building/resource generation, and just have two or more individuals do battle, with the possibility of a third or fourth person as teammates with their own independent fleet?
If that is possible, then I think EaW/FoC *is* the way to go for space combat.

We'll have to work out how to score fighter kills because they do not show up on the victory tally screen, or at least they don't in EaW.

Yes for resources. and 95% sure for teammates. As long as there are only 2 sides , I think I can make maps to do just that. I will test it a.s.a.p. and let you know.
And Munro is right. Fighters are not counted on the score sheet. So far, I haven't found a way to "Mod" that.

If not, two is still fine.
I'm unsure what I think about not scoring for fighters. It will mean that fleets will have to be somewhat larger than I had envisioned before, otherwise the expected losses of capital ships will be crippling - more so than for a small wargame that otherwise would only entail a small force of larger warships.
Again, I'm eager to see what ideas the rest of you have to deal with these issues.
